These are some quotes, theories, and sayings from Majora's Mask I like. All of these are from the game, are ideas of what the game means, poems, and top comments people got on videos on YouTube. Most of them go pretty deep, and make sense. After some of them i'll put my little side comments, hope you don't mind. :aww: One reason this is one of the most unusual Zelda games is because it focuses on one thing, that webs into other things. I think it's pretty obvious in the quotes, so I wont mention what it is till the ending of this, so let's see if you can guess correctly what it is.

~Quotes~

"You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?" -Happy Mask Salesman

"The mask that was stolen from me... It is called Majora's Mask." -Happy Mask SalesmanJust think, this one sentence started it all. I mean of course Link would've chased down Skullkid to get his ocarina back, but Link probably wouldn't have known about Majora's Mask. It's amazing what one little thing can start. Think about that.

"Believe in your strengths... Believe..." -Happy Mask Salesman

Another thing that makes this game so unique and different from all the other Zelda games, was that this is one of the few Zelda games that doesn't mention Ganondorf, and the only one where you don't save princess Zelda. In fact, she was only mentioned once, in a flash back, with one line: "You are already leaving this land of Hyrule, aren't you? Even though it was only a short time, I feel like I've known you forever. I'll never forget the days we spent together in Hyrule...And I believe in my heart that a day will come when I shall meet you again...Until that day comes, please...Take this...I am praying...I am praying that your journey be a safe one. If anything should happen to you, remember his song...The Goddess of Time is protecting you. If you play the Song of Time, she will aid you..." -Princess Zelda But yet this one line flashback saves your life so many times in the game, so it's pretty important.

"Snap out of it! What are you doing lost in memories? Get yourself together! Getting that old ocarina back isn't gonna help us! Somebody! Anybody! Goddess of Time, help us please! We need more time!" -Tatl
"Huh? When did you get that instrument?!?
(after you play the Song of Time with the Deku's Trumpet) W-what just happened?! Everything has...started over...Wha-what are you, anyway? That song you played...That instrument...THAT INSTRUMENT!!! -Tatl

"Belief or disbelief rests with you." -Garo

"You who do not fear the dead, learn well the song that is inscribed behind me...And if you ever meet my brother, I'd like you to inform him...The thousand years of raindrops summoned by my song are my tears. The thunder that strikes the earth is my anger. This is my one request." -Flat

"What business have you in Ikana Kingdom, land where only the dead roam? This is no place for one as full of life as you. Or do you say that you wish to join the dead? That is fine. If that is the case, then sleep gently to the melody of darkness that the great composer Sharp shall play, and join the ranks of the dead." -Sharp
"W-what is this?...This song? ...N-no, it can't be. This song...Flat, my dear brother. Forgive your foolish brother who dreamt of the revival of the Royal Family...Ye who do not fear the dead...With my brother's song, you have broken the curse that was placed upon me. It is all thanks to you. We dead should not be lingering here in this land. It was all a trick of the masked one who upset things. If you truly do not fear the dead...I wish for you to go to the temple in this land and sever the root of the evil curse that torments us. To do that...I, the only one who knows the way into the temple, shall direct you to the King. The King is in the ruins of Ikana Castle, awaiting the coming of the one who will break the curse...I have made my final request.

"Will you stop?!!? What Fools! Haven't you begun to understand? The kingdom being ruined and us left in this state...Isn't it petty, little battles like this that have have caused it? Believing in your friends and embracing that belief by forgiving failures...These feelings have vanished from our hearts." -Igos du Ikana (King of Ikana)
"On my kingdom...Shine the light of justice..." -Igos du Ikana

"Forgive your friend." -Eastern Giant That is a powerful statement. The 'friend' is Skullkid who caused the end of the world, disrupted and cursed the 4 different areas, turned Kafei into a child days before his wedding, sparked the kidnapping of the Deku Princess and punishment for the Monkey, blocked the entrance to the Goron Races (which made a certain little prince cry (we should all know who I'm talking about), which frankly, I'm slightly intimidated by him), leaked info about the Zora Eggs to the pirates who of course wanted them, brought misery and unsettling peace to the Dead of Ikana, and SLAPPED TAEL! ALOT!  (PS Random fact incase you didn't know: Tatl and Tael's names are familiar common words we use, like tattling to an adult, ratting out on someone, they would tell and help Skullkid with secret stuff and tricking people :plotting:) The Ikana Temple Giant says this when Tatl tells him you'll call him to help defeat SkullKid/Majora. The Giant then begins to sound sad and Tatl asks why don't you want to defeat him? He just replies saying this. Think about this, after all the hurt, pain, and troubles the SkullKid/Majora has brought to Termina, the Giants still don't want to hurt SkullKid. He's still their friend. Makes ya want to forgive your friends for anything they've done. eh? yeah! ... whatever, I don't know what I'm saying oh-well. Continue on:

"I've decided to wait for him. I've made my promise...I'm fine with this I believe him." -Anju

"Your friends…What kind of…people are they? I wonder…Do those people…think of you…As a friend?" -Child wearing Odolwas's mask
"You…What makes you…happy? I wonder…What makes you happy…Does it make…others happy, too?" -Child wearing Goht's mask
"The right thing…What is it? I wonder…If you do the right thing…Does it really make…everybody…happy?" -Child wearing Gyorg's mask
"Your true face…What kind of…face is it? I wonder…The face under the mask…Is that…your true face?" -Child wearing Twinmold's mask
"Everyone has gone away, haven't they? Will you play…with me? You don't have any masks left, do you? Well, let's do something else. Let's play good guys against bad guys…Yes. Let's play that. Are you ready? You're the bad guy. And when you're bad, you just run. That's fine, right? Well… Shall we play?" -Child wearing Majora's Mask

"You guys…You hadn't forgotten about me? You still thought of me as a friend? -Skull KidHe really dives deep into friendship. I believe the children on the moon are either; more skull kids, part of the old ancient tribe who created Majora's Mask to imprison the demon, or apart of the actual Skullkid in his loneliness, wanting and questioning friendship. (I mostly believe the 3rd thing) A lot of his quotes are about friendship which really make you think. What is friendship? Who are your friends? Do they think of you as a friend? Do they like what you like? Would they forget you? Would they forgive you?

"Shouldn't you be returning home as well? Whenever there is a meeting, a parting is sure to follow. However, that parting need not last forever… Whether a parting be forever or merely for a short time…That is up to you."  -Happy Mask Salesman

~Theories~

1)Termina never existed before Link arrived there: That's right. Certainly, Link's adventure in Termina occurred, but what I'm telling you is that Termina, as a place -a land -never existed before Link arrived there. It's a dreamscope, a fantasy, crafted from either Link or Skullkid's memories. A land with familiar faces because it was crafted from familiar memories. Think Link's Awakening.
2)Majora's mask is Hyrulian in origin: We can't know this, of course, but we can assume it. Skullkid's, as a species, seem to be native to the Lost Woods, which lie in Hyrule. Also, Majora's Mask and the Twili's Fused Shadow share similarities. A theory suggests that the Twili tribe (introduced in TP) could be the ancient tribe that formed Majora's Mask, because they look similar. And let's not forget that Majora's Wrath form and Zant share similar fighting styles ;) (break dancing and moon walking.)
3)Link's adventure in Termina is the quest to accept the inevitability of death: Termina sprung forth in tormoil by Majora's designs. The players are introduced to a thriving land on the brink of disaster, all in three repeating days. Everyone Link help, from the separated lovers to the daughter and her cursed father, symbolizes growing up. It's the only way Link knows- we're talking about the guy who saved Hyrule here. Termina sprung out of Link's mind, and for all its beauty and wonder, the message at the center of it all is the impending future of death. Just look at the moon.
4)Link is Screwed: Sorry, but it's the truth. Link isn't a Kokiri, he's Hylian, and after Ocarina of Time, he entered the Lost Woods without a fairy. He's doomed to become a Stalfos. "You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?" Termina is a land constructed by Majora, and while in this land, Link embarks on a grand quest to save this world from destruction. I'm not saying this didn't happen, it did, Links a hero. But the land itself was created by Majora out of his memories and ideas. At the part in time when he met Majora, what concerns the young Link the knowledge that he is lost. He grew up surrounded by Kokiri. He knows the forest legends. He knows what happens to people who get lost in the woods... The Hero's Shade in Twilight Princess, the game that follows Majora's Mask by about a hundred years, claims he was once a hero. Note that he's left handed (like Link) he can take a wolf's form (a noble beast similar to the Link of Twilight Princess and most (4/6) of the songs he used to call him come from Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. Oh, and he resembles a Stalfo. (I did some research and found out: In Twilight Princess, you meet a character named Hero's Shade, the ghost of a past hero who trains Link with his skills. That alone suggests that this may be a Link from a previous era (in case you didn't know, it's confirmed that there are many Links throughout the Zelda Timeline, and Majora's Mask takes place 100 years before Twilight Princess) There's many theories that suggest Majora's mask was actually about Link's death. To sum it up, Link goes into the Lost Woods without a fairy searching for his fairy, Navi, and it's stated that people who go into the Lost Woods without a fairy, turn into Stalfos (warrior skeletons) and themes in Majora's Mask hint the stages of death with acceptance at the end of the story. At the beginning of Majora's Mask, you see Link riding on a Epona slowly, looking like he's lost, in some huge woods that look endless with fog (Lost Woods is foggy and endless) Then Skullkid comes (Skullkids inhabit the Lost Woods) and makes Link chase him to a cave that appears in a maze of trees (things randomly appear in the Lost Woods) then Link falls in a hole with images floating around him like and illusion and dream, then the dream becomes a reality (those moments when dreams feel so real). So with these theories Majora's Mask is pretty much like Link's dream when he's dying. The game always talks about accepting death, with the Song of Healing, the Deku Butler's Son, the Goron Darmani, the Zora Mikau, the King of Ikana realizing they're dead now and should move on, and much, much more. So maybe it's Link's self consciousness learning to accept the fact that Link's dying, and he's turning into a Stalfos. Back to the Hero's Shade thing, notice how similar he looks to a stalfos. Also, Hero's Shade responds to four songs used in OoT and MM. He even exactly quotes the Happy Mask Salesman, "Believe in your strengths...Believe..." which the HMSman told Link when he was doubting. Also, Hero's Shade teaches Link in TP moves to defeat Ganondorf, which are the same moves Link in OoT uses to defeat Ganondorf and Ganon. Cool huh? :)
5) Fierce Diety Link represents adulthood: Among other things of course, but think about it. Link's quest up to that point, collecting all the masks and helping everyone in Termina, Link trades all these experiences in the masks, in order to receive the Fierce Deity Mask. It's a symbol of growing up. The idead of adulthood is important within the game.
6) Link accepts his fate: When we start the game, we find Link searching for a dear friend (Navi*cough*) but by the end of the game, Tatl hints that Link got what he was after, He came to accept his fate, he grew in his journey and, in his own way, became a man; an adult.
Please understand, I'm not saying that this is all there is to Majora's Mask. There's more, much more, but interpretations are subjective and this is one. PS Oh, by the way, Tingle thinks of you as a role model, and loves how you have a fairy and green clothes.

The five areas in Majora's Mask mirror the five stages of grief. Clock Town is denial. No one in the town wants to admit the moon is going to fall on them. Southern Swamp is anger. The Deku Scrubs want to kill a monkey they blame a all their problems on. Snowhead is bargaining. The Gorons, freezing and starving, hope that their dead hero will come back to save them. Great bay is desperation. The Zora's lost their dead guitarist, and are in despair. Ikana Canyon is acceptance. With no new masks or identities to assume and almost everyone in the area dead, the only thing Link has left to conquer is himself, facing his own grief at the loss of his friend. The friend that began the journey.

Have you ever actually stopped and thought about the children inside the moon's questions? And what angle they're coming from ? Well this is theory I really like. "Your friends...What kind of...people are they? I wonder...Do those people...think of you...As a friend?" Link encounters a lot of people whom he'd consider friends. The Dekus, Gorons, Zoras, King of Ikana, and nearly everyone in Clock Town. But if he were to ask them how they felt, what would their answer be? Probably no. Actually, they don't even know him. By the time they become friends, the 3 days run out so the clock has to restart. So they can't even consider him a friend. Is this a blessing or a curse? Friendship is never smooth sailing or calm waters, it often ripples and waves. But friendship isn't dead, people do seem pretty happy, even if he resets the happiness, happiness is in his own timeline. This happiness Link carriers even in the face of loneliness. "You...What makes you...happy...Does it make...others happy, too?" It seems like Link is making everyone happy, but does it make him happy? He never asked to be in this mess called Termina and Majora. Yet, regardless of his personal safety, countless times and times again he puts his life in danger to make others happy. I guess it's just like how the player wants to get all the masks, or complete the bombers notebook. It's not necessary to beat Majora, but we desire to finish it. I guess it's the same way with Link, he feels like he needs to save Termina. He has the power whether he likes it or not. "With great power comes great responsibility." Sadly we never see Links emotions, though they do try to show it throughout the game  by the people he reacts with. "The right thing...What is it? I wonder...If you do the right thing...Does it really make...everybody...happy?" Right at the moment when people believe happiness is the key to Majora's Mask, out comes this child with this question. Who has the right to determine the 'right thing'? This question will probably never be answered. In this game even, each problem has no 'right answer', each story has two sides, especially shown in the Stone Tower. The place that mainly shows this, without a doubt, is Ikana Valley. Everything is dead, then the Song of Storms is played and everything comes to life. The Stone Tower also flips upside down making everything horrible. (Or so say the people who have defeated the Temple) You want it to go back to normal, but yet you still want all the things in Ikana to live. So some changes can be good, some bad. The point is, everywhere Link tries to make things 'right', but the 'right thing' becomes much more complicated. When a boss is defeated, Termina aligns itself, so whether things have become 'right' or not, it's too complicated, but everything becomes more ordered. That seems to be the greater good, when order comes and everything is back to normal, even the Skull Kid seems to agree. He's back to normal after Majora's Spirit in the mask left him, and there isn't chaos anymore. So maybe the right thing is everything back to normal-ish. "Your true face...What king of...face is it? I wonder...the face under the mask...Is that...your true face?" The final piece of the puzzle; Who is Link really? The masks seem to show this throughout the game, not Termina. Even though he puts on any mask, he's still himself, Hylian Link. (That is proven with the Deku, Goron, and Zora having a green cap and outfit with Link's similarities.) Every time he gets a mask he becomes a part of someone else. At the end he has to get rid of all the masks, so it's just himself, no one else's spirit. Only himself and the evil Mask. He has all the fears and troubles anyone could ever have on their shoulders because of all the other people in Termina. But it seems that the hide and seek games have him get rid of the masks and a provide period of acceptance and opportunity to get rid of the masks, and build and move on his own. He does get the Fierce Deity's Mask in return though. Perhaps that represents the fire in Link's heart to defeat Majora and protect Termina once and for all, or showing that he grew up when the masks left. This is why Majora's Mask is so incredible. We grow as Link grows, and take great pride in the transformation from masked aid to great hero over and over again. When Link leaves Termina, we can too, knowing the player is better because of it. I made this by summing up an article I found, and I have to say, it was pretty awesome. I really encourage you to please read the actual article it's not long, but I summed it up leaving out good words, here's the link:   (PS I also found much more cool articles on this web sight so feel free to look around) :)

~Sayings~

Time...cruel and fearful...
A swamp, where one is about to be executed for a crime he did not commit...
A sea, where a fallen musician can only lament his failure...
A mountain, where a leader is powerless to save his people...
A valley, where the ghosts of the past still fight a war that has long since ended...
A town, caught between it all...where the end begins...
And one boy...a hero...with all the time in the world...and no time at all...to save this world...
This is Majora's Mask
Simply...awesome right? This sums up the whole game into one, epic, non rhyming poem.

Day to night, dark to light,
Falls the sands of time
Let the years,
Like the gears of a clock, unwind
In your mind walk through time
Back to better days
Memories like a dream,
Wash your tears away

Probably my favorite song from Zelda is the Song of Healing, and I love these two sayings. Both of thesek were top comments on The Song of Healing videos:
Sometimes this song makes me sad, sometimes it calms me down, sometimes it makes me happy, and sometimes it really does heal.

I'm 17, I wrestle, I went to a volunteer bootcamp for a year, I have played football, and I hunt...I cry like a little baby when I hear this song and I'm f****** proud of that.

When the waves start crashing
When the moon stops laughing
When time runs out
I'll be all you think about.

When the clock starts moving faster
I'll Call upon the four that matter
I've slept less then three days
It'll be worth the wait
When I see your face.

So put your mask back on, Darling
Watch the moon and stars, falling.
One by one, every person I meet
Has a story to tell, and a goal to meet.

I've got to get back home
I'm just so tired of being alone
Wait till the dancing stops
And you're heading out
Because...
A hero like me can't even dream
of what it's almost about.

Could this world be over
If it weren't for me...

Could this city be buried far beneath!
All that was thought to be loved is gone
All that was right has gone all wrong
I've had dreams like this before.

So, those are some things I really like about Majora's Mask. It seems to me that this game really tries to express friendship, loyalty, and trust. Like, ALOT! Which I don't mind. Why? Because I believe those qualities are very important in everyone's lives. Now for the theories. Who else thought those were pretty cool? Anyone? Well, I did. :) Did the creators of Majora's Mask go really deep with the story, or is it just really cool coincidences? You decide. My opinion is they made most of the theories true, but some are made up by interested people. I hope you enjoyed this, and learned more in your thinking of Zelda. I think it's really interesting with the different theories. Thanks for reading this. :)
